Does this sound like you?

You want to improve your Egyptian Arabic skills…

And you know that learning a bunch of vocabulary is an essential part of the process-

But every time you try to learn new words and phrases…

You run into these problems:

  • You don’t know where to find highly actionable Egyptian Arabic phrases
  • The ones that actually are useful are buried deep in random YouTube videos or language guides
  • And even when you DO find these phrases, you’re never quite sure if they are the Egyptian dialect or Standard Arabic

That leaves you repeating the same handful of phrases over and over

Awkwardly staring back at Egyptians when they say something even slightly more advanced to you

And never progressing with your Egyptian Arabic the way you want to.

If that sounds generally correct…

You’re not alone-

Because I went through these problems too!

When I First Moved to Egypt, I Had No Idea What I Was Doing

I wanted to speak Egyptian Arabic fluently.

But every time I opened a textbook or Googled “how to learn Egyptian Arabic,” I hit the same wall:

  • Too many random words.
  • No way to know which phrases were actually useful.

And no proven method of ensuring that even if I did learn something-

I wasn’t going to forget it immediately.

Learning enough Egyptian Arabic words and phrases to actually be useful felt like a fight-

But fight I did. 🙂

Here were just a few things I regularly did to build up my Egyptian Arabic vocabulary:

  • Asking my Egyptian coworkers what certain phrases meant (thanks Mostafa!)
  • Watching (literally) thousands of videos online
  • Eavesdropping on Egyptian conversations in microbuses (I know, I’m a creep)
  • Taking a three-hour roundtrip metro ride every Thursday to chat with my best friend Mohamed (if you know you know)
  • Bothering countless teachers with near constant questions

This quest for Egyptian Arabic vocabulary was long…

Labor-intensive…

And I surely wasted HUNDREDS of hours doing it.

But by the time I left Cairo:

I had over 6,000 Egyptian Arabic words and phrases in a giant spreadsheet.

Well-

Long story short:

Over the last six months, I’ve worked with a group of native Egyptian Arabic speakers to:

  • Edit these phrases
  • Take only the best ones
  • Organize them into groups
  • Record a voice note for each and every one

And after hundreds of hours of work…

And tons of people asking about them:

It’s finally yours. :)

But first...

Why You Should Trust My Vocabulary Cards

If you are reading this page-

There’s a good chance you already know about Cleo Lingo.

But if you don’t, here’s your “too long didn’t read” summary:

  • My name is Eric
  • I’m from California, USA
  • I lived in Cairo, Egypt from 2015 to 2018
  • I got really good at Egyptian Arabic
  • My Egyptian friend Tarek and I started Cleo Lingo as a result
  • Since 2018, we’ve helped thousands of people learn Egyptian Arabic (through our blog, emails and courses)

Here are just a few of the (at this point 200+) messages Tarek and I have gotten from people over the years:

And these vocabulary cards?

They aren’t some random assortment of phrases from an outdated book.

They aren’t lame words from a well-meaning but ineffective Egyptian Arabic teacher.

Nope.

These are literally my personal Egyptian Arabic phrases that I learned going from “zero” to “B2” in about a year of living in Cairo.

From a former Egyptian Arabic student’s brain-

Straight to yours. :)

But more important than anything isn’t just the vocabulary cards themselves-

It’s the system they’re built on.

This system is called "spaced repetition"...

It’s the most effective memory system ever created.

The Power Of Spaced Repetition

To understand the real power behind what I'm introducing today, we first need to understand one very important thing:

The way the brain remembers (and forgets) things.

For the proven science behind it-

Check out this picture below:

Here are the main takeaways:

  • When we learn something for the first time, we basically only "40%" remember it (or less) a day later
  • When we review that information, we remember it twice as well (80%) a full two days later
  • That pattern continues: we remember something progressively longer each time we review it

What that means for learning Egyptian Arabic vocabulary:

Not only do you need to review phrases several times if you want to remember them….

But you need to spend your time on the ones you're in danger of forgetting-

NOT the ones you've already learned.

Luckily…

There is a tool that helps you do EXACTLY that.

It’s called Anki-

And it’s what we used to create all these Egyptian Arabic vocabulary cards.

How Anki Works

Here’s a quick screenshot of one of my current Spanish Anki cards-

As well as an explanation of the buttons.

(I currently live in Mexico and use it all the time for Spanish practice.)

  • First I see an English phrase
  • Then think about what the Spanish translation is-
  • And then click "Show answer."

After I click "Show answer"-

This is the next screen I see:

This is where the magic happens.

See those buttons?

Here are the four options I have:

  1. I didn't know it at all = I click the red button (Again) = it shows me the card again in ~10 minutes (see the "10m" on the button?)
  2. I knew it but it took awhile to think about = I click the black button (Hard) = it shows me the card again in ~15 minutes
  3. I knew it after a few seconds of thinking = I click the green button (Good) = it shows me the card again in ~1 day
  4. I knew it immediately = I click the blue button (Easy) = it shows me the card again in ~2 days

Do you see what's happening here?

Anki will show you the card sooner if you don't know it-

And will take a while if you DO know it.

Spaced repetition at it's finest!

Or...

To put it another way:

Exactly how our brain learns!

And the great thing?

It's a constantly updating algorithm for each individual card!

(I have Anki cards that I have learned so well and can remember so easily that it's not going to show them to me again for another two years!)

This ensures I spend my vocabulary study time on things I don't know...

And none of it on things I already do!

The Power Of Anki Is In The Simplicity:

It's simple, really:

  • The algorithm pushes cards you have already mastered to the back-
  • And prioritizes the ones that you struggle with.

That means you focus all your time on phrases that you haven’t mastered yet-

Until you do.

Do this enough-

And you fill up your brain with Egyptian Arabic phrases that come naturally

That you can use without even thinking about them…

And you get really good at Egyptian Arabic-

Really fast.

If you are serious about Egyptian Arabic…

And you’re tired of that frustrating feeling you get when you’re limited by your underdeveloped vocabulary-

What we just finished creating is for you.

Introducing:

The Ultimate Egyptian Arabic Vocabulary System

(That's right - no crazy cool name for our resource this time ;D)

Here's the deal-

Most Egyptian Arabic vocabulary systems suffer from one of four problems:

  • They only give you singular words (you learn much faster learning entire phrases)
  • They don’t give you enough material (a few hundreds phrases AT MOST)
  • They aren’t based on spaced repetition (which, as we’ve seen, is the most effective way to learn a lot of vocabulary FAST)
  • They don’t include audio (which basically guarantees that you mess up correct pronunciation)

But with The Ultimate Egyptian Arabic Vocabulary System?

We've solved all four of these!

Thousands of Egyptian Arabic phrases…

Gathered by someone who’s been exactly where you are...

Packaged and edited by a team of experts…

Built on the magic of spaced repetition...

And recorded by a team of native Egyptian Arabic speakers.

(Seven overall - four men and three women.)

The result?

  • You learn Egyptian Arabic vocabulary faster than ever before
  • You actually REMEMBER that vocabulary, because you are using a scientifically-proven system
  • You get exposure to a HUGE variety of vocabulary (not just basic phrases)

FAQ's:

When do I get access to The Ultimate Egyptian Arabic Vocabulary System?

Immediately.

Do I have lifetime access?

Yup!

Will you ever add more cards to the system?

Most likely yes. And if you enroll now, you get free and automatic access to those.

Is this resource only for beginners?

No. It’s for all levels. With over 3,000 phrases in varying degrees of difficulty (and we sort them all by difficulty), the only person who would get no value out of this is a native Egyptian Arabic speaker.

Do I need to know how to read the Arabic script to study the Anki cards?

No. Each card also comes with the "Franco Arabic" transliteration as well as a recorded audio file. While we always recommend people learn the Arabic script, it's not necessary here.

What topics do the Anki cards cover?

Everything. Basic questions. Weather. Insults. Observations. Advanced opinions about politics. With ~3,000 phrases, no surprise that they cover a lot!

How much does The Ultimate Egyptian Arabic Vocabulary System?

77 US dollars.

Really? Only 77 dollars?

Yup. :) We've had a ton of people ask about this resource, so we wanted to price it low for more people to get access to it.

How are the cards structured?

English on the first side, Franco-Arabic transliteration + Egyptian Arabic translation + voice note on the second side.

Is Anki free?

For computers yes. For phones the Android app is free. For iPhones the app costs 25 dollars for lifetime access. (This is something we unfortunately don’t have any control over).

How do I use Anki?

It's pretty easy. But enroll in The Ultimate Egyptian Arabic Vocabulary System and I will be sending you four videos explaining exactly how to use the Anki cards. This will include:

  • Importing the cards
  • How to use it on your computer or phone
  • How you can organize the Anki cards exactly as you want

How are the Anki cards organized?

They come in five main categories of “frequency” (how often the average Egyptian Arabic speaker would use them). There are about the same amount of cards in each of the five categories (550-600).

Are the phrases clearly labeled as masculine / feminine / plural (if applicable)?

Yes.

How many different voices will I hear?

There are seven total native Egyptian Arabic voices. Four men and three women.

Do you suggest I use phone or computer?

Both work fine (although like I say above, you do need to pay for the iPhone version). And the cool thing is that once you make an account all your progress syncs between devices.

Is there a money back guarantee?

Yes. With the cheap price of 77 dollars, and the difficulty in “taking back materials” (as soon as you get access to these cards, they are imported to your device forever), refunds for this sort of resource are a bit weird. Honestly, Tarek and I think it would be pretty sad if somebody asked for one haha. ;) That said, we understand that people change their mind. We’ll give you 14 days to figure out if this resource is for you. If you don’t like it, email me at eric@cleolingo.com and I will refund you.
